President Murmu Celebrates Archery and Boxing Triumphs
On Friday, President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations to India's archery teams and boxer Lovlina Borgohain for their remarkable achievements at the Asian Games.
Archery Teams Make History
India's women's recurve archery team, consisting of Kumkum Mohod, Ankita Bhakat, and Kirti Sharma, achieved a historic victory by defeating South Korea 5-3 in the gold medal match, marking the country's first medal in this category at the Asian Games.
In the mixed archery event, Kumkum and Dhiraj Bommadevara earned a silver medal after a close match against China's Zhu Jingyi and Li Mengqi, finishing with a score of 3-5.
Lovlina Borgohain's Birthday Gold Medal
Celebrating her 29th birthday, Lovlina secured a gold medal in the women's 75kg boxing final, triumphing over China's Bao Ziyi with a decisive 5-0 victory.
Presidential Congratulations
President Murmu took to X to commend the women's recurve archery team, describing their win as 'a gold to remember.' She expressed her heartfelt congratulations to the trio for their historic achievement.
In her post, she stated, 'Three archers, one united effort, and a Gold to remember! May your dedication and commitment continue to inspire young archers.'
Additionally, she praised Dhiraj and Kumkum for their silver medal, calling it a 'proud moment for Indian archery.'
Murmu's message highlighted their achievement as a historic milestone, bringing India its first-ever silver in the mixed recurve archery event.
She also congratulated Lovlina, commending her 'strength, precision, and determination' in the boxing ring, emphasizing the pride her victory brought to the nation.
Sepaktakraw Men's Team Wins Bronze
India's sepaktakraw men's quadrant also celebrated success, securing a bronze medal after a semifinal loss to Japan. The team, comprising Malemnganba Singh Sorokhaibam, Ram Kumar Sharma, Bobby Kumar, and Akash Yumnam, lost 0-2 (12-15, 13-15) in the semifinals.
This achievement marks India's third medal in sepaktakraw at the Asian Games, following two previous bronze medals in earlier editions.
With these accomplishments, India has now amassed a total of 72 medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, including 12 golds, 25 silvers, and 34 bronzes.
