Gavit and Basil Achieve Remarkable 1-2 Finish

At the Commonwealth Games 2026, India celebrated a significant achievement in the men's T47 100m event, with Dilip Mahadu Gavit securing the gold medal and Mohammed Basil Morssinganakth taking home the silver on Day 7 in Glasgow.

Gavit showcased an impressive performance, finishing strong in the last 30 meters and setting a new Commonwealth Games record of 10.71 seconds. Basil also delivered a commendable effort, clocking 10.83 seconds to clinch silver, narrowly beating England's Kevin Santos, who finished with a time of 10.85 seconds and earned the bronze.

Sreeshankar Secures Silver in Men's Long Jump

Earlier in the day, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar added to India's medal count by winning silver in the men's long jump event.

Sreeshankar, who previously earned silver at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, achieved a best jump of 8.09m, finishing just behind Jamaica's Tajay Gayle, who won gold with a leap of 8.15m. Scotland's Stephen Mackenzie took the bronze with a jump of 8.08m, while another Indian, Lokesh, made his Commonwealth Games debut, finishing fifth with a jump of 7.97m. This silver medal made Sreeshankar the first Indian male long jumper to win two medals at the Commonwealth Games.

India's Overall Medal Count

With the addition of Gavit's gold, Basil's silver, and Sreeshankar's silver, India secured three medals on Day 7, bringing the total medal count to 15—comprising three gold, nine silver, and three bronze.
