Hindu Raksha Dal Leader and Son Arrested for Distributing Swords in Ghaziabad
Arrests Made in Ghaziabad
The head of the Hindu Raksha Dal, Bhupendra Chowdhry, also known as Pinki, along with his son Harsh Chowdhry, was taken into custody in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. They were arrested for allegedly distributing swords within a residential area, which raised concerns about communal harmony.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trans Hindon) Nimish Patil, the arrests occurred on Tuesday in the Shalimar Garden Colony of Ghaziabad.
Following their arrest, both individuals were presented in court and subsequently placed in 14-day judicial custody.
Previously, on December 27, ten other members of the Hindu Raksha Dal were apprehended in connection with the same incident.
The arrests were prompted by the emergence of videos on social media showing members of the group displaying and distributing swords.
In one of the videos, Chowdhry expressed that Hindus should possess swords for self-defense, citing the violence faced by Hindus in Bangladesh.
This statement was in reference to the tragic death of Dipu Chandra Das, a factory worker who was lynched in Bangladesh's Mymensingh district on December 18 after being accused of blasphemy.
The FIR filed by the Uttar Pradesh Police indicates that members of the Hindu Raksha Dal also chanted communal slogans while parading with weapons.
The charges against them include rioting, rioting with deadly weapons, and wrongful confinement, as outlined in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Criminal Law Amendment Act.
