New Government's Focus on Implementation

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the soon-to-be Chief Minister of Assam, has announced that following his oath-taking ceremony on May 12, the new administration will prioritize the execution of the party's manifesto. In a conversation with reporters, Sarma stated that the first cabinet meeting will take place after the swearing-in. The objective is to implement the commitments outlined in the manifesto.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Guwahati on May 11 to participate in the oath-taking event, which will also see the presence of numerous dignitaries and party workers.


Ceremony Details and Attendees

Sarma mentioned that the Prime Minister will reach Guwahati tonight, with the new Assam government set to take the oath at 11 AM the following day. Key figures such as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President Nitin Nabin, and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states will be in attendance. Many grassroots party workers will also join the ceremony.


Earlier, on May 11, Assam's Chief Secretary Ravi Kota issued an order appointing Himanta Biswa Sarma as Chief Minister on behalf of Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya. The Governor exercised his powers under Article 164(1) of the Constitution of India to appoint Sarma.


Formal Claim to Form Government

Sarma will take the oath at 11:40 AM on May 12 at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara, Guwahati. On May 11, he met with Governor Acharya and formally claimed to form the government after being elected as the leader of both the BJP and NDA legislative parties in Assam. He confirmed his appointment in a post on X, stating that the swearing-in ceremony will take place in Guwahati. While addressing the assembly, Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP leadership for their support, emphasizing that the government will focus on development over the next five years.
