A New Chapter for Assam's Leadership

Guwahati: On Tuesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Assam, marking his second consecutive term as the leader of the state. This event signifies the BJP-led NDA's continued governance in Assam for the third consecutive time.

The oath was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya during a grand ceremony held at Khanapara in Guwahati, attended by notable figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with various prominent BJP and NDA leaders.

In addition to Sarma, five other Ministers were sworn in as part of the new Council of Ministers. These included former Union Minister Rameswar Teli, AGP President Atul Bora, UPPL leader Charan Boro, and senior BJP figure Ajanta Neog.

The ceremony also saw the presence of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, alongside BJP national leaders and Chief Ministers from 22 NDA-ruled states.

Notably, the event was graced by several prominent religious leaders, including 15 Satradhikars from Assam’s Vaishnavite monasteries, as well as leading industrialists and distinguished personalities from various sectors.

Sarma, donning traditional Assamese attire, was greeted with enthusiastic cheers from party workers and supporters present at the venue.

The BJP leader's return to power follows a decisive mandate secured by the NDA in the recent Assembly elections.

This marks Sarma's second consecutive term as Chief Minister, having first taken office in 2021. Under his leadership, the BJP has made history by forming the government in Assam for the third consecutive time, further solidifying the party's political influence in the northeastern region.

Previously, Sarma was unanimously elected as the leader of both the BJP Legislature Party and the NDA Legislature Party in Assam. He subsequently met with Governor Acharya to formally claim the right to form the new government.
