Himanta Biswa Sarma's Leadership Confirmed
Himanta Biswa Sarma has been unanimously chosen as the leader of the NDA assembly party. The BJP leader is set to take the oath as Assam's Chief Minister for the second consecutive time on May 12. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest at the ceremony. The NDA, led by the BJP, achieved a remarkable victory in the Assam assembly elections, securing 102 out of 126 seats, thus gaining a two-thirds majority. This marks the first time the BJP has attained a majority on its own in Assam.
Sarma's Vision for Assam
Following this announcement, Sarma expressed that the NDA council of ministers will take their oath in the presence of Prime Minister Modi on May 12. He urged the people of Assam to continue their support in the future. His vision is to advance Assam and transform it into one of the most developed states in the country. Sarma also expressed gratitude towards Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia, stating that they will meet with the Governor to claim the formation of the next government. He acknowledged Prime Minister Modi for blessing them with the opportunity to form the government for the third consecutive time in Assam.
Preparations for the Ceremony
Prime Minister Modi, along with several central ministers, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states, and representatives from various industries, are expected to attend the event. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota shared details about the preparations, stating that he chaired a comprehensive review meeting with Assam's Director General of Police to assess the arrangements for the Prime Minister's visit and the oath-taking ceremony.
In a post on X, Kota mentioned that discussions were held regarding security, traffic management, venue preparation, protocol, and inter-departmental coordination. He emphasized the need for strict adherence to established protocols and close coordination among all stakeholders involved in the event. Furthermore, he instructed all relevant departments to maintain the highest level of preparedness to ensure that the ceremony proceeds smoothly, safely, and in accordance with the significance of the occasion.
