Seventeen-year-old wrestler Shauryaveer Yadav from Mandi district has made his mark by winning a silver medal at the National Cadet Wrestling Championship, which took place in Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
Competing in the 110 kg Greco-Roman division, Shauryaveer showcased his skills throughout the competition. He triumphed over Pankaj Mali from Rajasthan in the quarterfinals and defeated Stephany Seb from Kerala in the semifinals. Although he fought valiantly in the final, he ultimately lost to Rudra from the host state, securing the runner-up position.
A student at Government Senior Secondary School in Sundernagar, Shauryaveer has consistently demonstrated his potential in wrestling. Previously, he represented Himachal Pradesh at the National School Games, where he earned a bronze medal.
His accomplishments extend beyond national borders, as he has also represented India and secured a medal at the Asian Kurash Championship, further solidifying his reputation. This year, he has also won significant titles, including Mandi Kumar and Suket Kumar.
A Legacy of Sporting Excellence
Shauryaveer hails from a family with a rich sporting heritage. His grandfather, Bhikham Ram, was a renowned wrestler, while his father, Dr. Sanjay Yadav, is an international athlete who has received the prestigious Parshuram Award and the State Teacher Award for 2024. Additionally, his uncle, Jagdish, has made a name for himself in wrestling, winning titles such as Himachal Kesari and Himachal Kumar.

Expressing his gratitude, Shauryaveer thanked Rajendra Thakur, the President of the Himachal Pradesh Wrestling Association, along with other officials for their unwavering support. He also recognized the valuable guidance provided by his Greco-Roman team coach, Ranveer Thakur.
His coach, Balbir Thakur, who operates the Lakhanpur Akhara, congratulated him on this significant achievement and announced plans for a felicitation ceremony in the near future. He expressed confidence that with continued dedication and training at the national camp, Shauryaveer will achieve even greater success on the international stage.
