Manish Sareen, a former candidate for the Dalhousie Assembly and a dedicated social activist, has expressed his support for the Himachal Pradesh government's recent announcement of a ₹3,000 crore investment in tourism. He believes this initiative will significantly enhance the state's economic landscape.
Sareen commended Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and R.S. Bali, Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC), for their efforts to elevate the state's profile in both national and international tourism sectors.
He emphasized the importance of Himachal Pradesh's stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and diverse geography, asserting that such substantial investments will not only bolster tourism infrastructure but also create jobs, enhance self-employment prospects, and invigorate the rural economy.
Sareen remarked that this decision comes at a crucial time, particularly following the downturn in tourism caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He praised Bali's leadership, noting that innovative and modern strategies in tourism are positioning Himachal as a top-tier tourist destination. However, he stressed that the Chamba district, recognized as an aspirational area, should be prioritized in this investment plan.
Sareen called on the state government to initiate specific tourism development projects in Chamba, which should include:
- Building an airstrip to enhance air connectivity
- Creating a water aerodrome for seaplane operations
- Developing ropeways at key tourist attractions
- Encouraging water sports in local lakes and reservoirs
- Implementing eco-tourism and adventure tourism initiatives
- Improving roads, lodging, and tourist amenities
He stated, “With a well-planned development strategy, Chamba can become one of North India's premier tourism hubs, generating substantial employment for local youth.”
Sareen expressed optimism that the government will promote balanced regional growth by prioritizing Chamba in its tourism agenda, ensuring that the benefits of this ambitious initiative reach the more remote and underserved regions of the state.
