Himachal Pradesh's Narco Coordination Centre Meeting Focuses on Drug Prevention Strategies

Following the directives from the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, a review meeting for the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held today at the Police District Nurpur office. The Superintendent of Police presided over the meeting.
Attendees from Various Departments The meeting included participation from the Additional Superintendent of Police (STF) Kangra, officials from the Excise Department (ASTEO), Sub-Divisional Police Officers from Nurpur, Jawali, and Indora, along with medical officers from the Health Department. Additionally, principals from the Education Department, the Tehsil Welfare Officer of Fatehpur, representatives from CDPO Nurpur, and delegates from de-addiction centres such as Prayas Letri and IRCA Nurpur were present. Some officials joined the meeting virtually via video conferencing.
Meeting Highlights and Directives
- Formation of Anti-Narcotics Committees: The chairperson pointed out that 22 sensitive panchayats have been identified within the district. SDMs and SDPOs were tasked with overseeing the operations of anti-narcotics committee meetings in these regions. To date, 59 such meetings have been conducted in Police District Nurpur.
- Encouraging Active Participation: Each SDM and SDPO is required to attend at least one anti-narcotics committee meeting monthly within their jurisdiction.
- Awareness Initiatives: Awareness programs have been executed in 88 schools to inform students about the dangers of drug use. The Education Department was encouraged to involve youth in sports and cultural events to divert them from addiction.
- Facility Inspections and Rehabilitation: Recent evaluations of facilities at Badu Khar, Letri, and IRCA Nurpur indicated satisfactory conditions. Emphasis was placed on ensuring follow-ups for patients two months after treatment.
- Monitoring and Reporting Mechanisms: The chairperson directed all departments to consistently report their activities in the anti-drug campaign to facilitate effective monitoring at the district level.
The meeting concluded with a unified commitment to enhance collaboration among departments and community members in the effort to create a drug-free society.
