Tourism Infrastructure and Revenue Growth in Himachal Pradesh

The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) has reported a remarkable increase in its operations, reflecting substantial advancements in tourism infrastructure and revenue within the state. R.S. Bali, the chairman of HPTDC, announced on Friday that the state government is actively working on a long-term vision to transform Himachal Pradesh into a leading global tourist destination.

While addressing media representatives, Bali emphasized that the natural beauty and cultural richness of Himachal Pradesh continue to attract tourists from around the globe. He stated that the government is dedicated to enhancing the tourism potential through strategic investments and reforms.

Bali noted that under the guidance of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, new initiatives have been launched to ensure long-term benefits for the state's residents while strengthening the existing tourism infrastructure. He highlighted that despite limited resources and ongoing renovations of key properties, HPTDC has seen a remarkable increase in its business, rising from approximately ₹80 crores to nearly ₹110 crores, consistently surpassing the ₹100 crore mark for several years. He attributed this achievement to improved operational efficiency and the dedication of HPTDC staff, even as several major hotels were closed for renovations and modernization. This growth showcases our employees' commitment and better management practices.

The chairman mentioned that many of HPTDC's properties, including heritage hotels, are undergoing phased renovations to remain competitive with private sector players. With financial support from the Asian Development Bank, three major hotels in Manali are being refurbished. He also highlighted several upcoming significant projects, including a ₹45 crore renovation of the historic Holiday Home hotel in Shimla, a ₹20 crore investment in Hotel Hamir, and the development of a ₹35 crore tourism complex in Jwala Ji. Additionally, tourism infrastructure projects such as heliports in Palampur and Hamirpur, along with tourism complexes in Nadoun and Dehra, are being developed with central assistance. Bali described the expansion of Kangra Airport as a 'game changer' for the state's tourism sector, supported by an investment of approximately ₹2,000 crores, which will enable the operation of larger aircraft and significantly increase tourist numbers.
