Himachal Pradesh Police Uncover Cheating Scheme in Constable Recruitment Exam

Police Crack Down on Recruitment Exam Fraud
Palampur: Authorities in Himachal Pradesh have dismantled a fraudulent scheme associated with the Police Constable Recruitment Examination held by the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission on June 15. Two individuals have been apprehended for allegedly attempting to extort money from candidates under the guise of assisting them in passing the exam.
Following a tip-off, a collaborative effort involving officers from the security branch and local police led to the detention of several suspicious individuals near an examination venue in Palampur. Initial questioning revealed that the suspects, Vikram and Balvinder, also known as Sonu Jaryal, both hailing from Jawali in Kangra district, were reportedly running a scam by falsely assuring candidates of their success in exchange for payment.
The pair allegedly employed other young individuals as intermediaries to connect with potential candidates, using deceptive promises and tactics. Numerous candidates at the examination site were interrogated, providing police with vital evidence.
A formal complaint (FIR No. 104/25 dated June 16, 2025) has been filed at the Palampur police station under Sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Both suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. So far, seven individuals have been questioned regarding the case. Sources indicate that Vikram and Balvinder have prior criminal records, having been implicated in the 2022 police recruitment paper leak and a 2019 incident involving illegal Bluetooth devices used for cheating.
The Himachal Pradesh Police have reaffirmed their dedication to preserving the integrity and transparency of recruitment examinations. Officials stated that the strictest legal measures would be enforced against anyone found guilty of compromising the examination process.
