Shimla: In a decisive initial action following his appointment, Ashok Tiwari, the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Himachal Pradesh, has initiated a robust crackdown on drug trafficking throughout the state. Under his direction, the Himachal Pradesh Police has made notable strides in its intensified anti-drug operations, which are being conducted with the support of the Chief Minister.
In just the past 24 hours, authorities have registered seven drug-related incidents, showcasing a strong and coordinated response from law enforcement across various districts.
These incidents include four cases in Mandi, along with one each in Shimla, Police District Nurpur, and Kangra. The police have confiscated significant amounts of charas and chitta, highlighting the critical nature of the drug issue in the state.
One case at the Sundernagar police station in Mandi district resulted in the seizure of 2.532 kg of charas, while two additional cases led to the recovery of 498 grams of charas. Additionally, 46.67 grams of heroin were confiscated from a local suspect in separate incidents across four districts.
All individuals apprehended have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with investigations being prioritized.
According to official reports, multiple smugglers have been detained within this 24-hour timeframe, marking a significant advancement in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the area.
DGP Ashok Tiwari commented on the situation, stating, “Following the directives of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, we are committed to combating drug abuse and trafficking. This campaign will proceed with full vigor.”
Observers interpret this as a clear message from the police leadership under the new DGP — that there will be zero tolerance for drug traffickers, and the system will respond promptly and effectively.
As drug abuse continues to pose a threat to the youth and societal structure of Himachal, this initiative is being viewed as a crucial and timely intervention, potentially paving the way for a cleaner and safer environment.
