New Directive for Gender Sensitivity in Himachal Police

Shimla: In a pivotal initiative to enhance gender-sensitive practices within the police force, Director General of Police Ashok Tewari has mandated that all officers and personnel of the Himachal Pradesh Police prioritize the safety, dignity, and respect of their female colleagues in the workplace.

The directive highlights the importance of fostering a professional and inclusive atmosphere, urging all ranks to engage with women staff in a courteous and respectful manner. It advocates for a strict zero-tolerance policy against any form of harassment or discrimination.

To facilitate open dialogue and empower female personnel, dedicated WhatsApp groups exclusively for women police staff have been established across all divisions of the force. These groups will act as a platform for sharing ideas and addressing concerns, which will be relayed to the Police Headquarters via the senior-most woman officer in each group.

The advisory from the DGP includes the following key points:
1. All officers and officials are required to interact with women colleagues in a courteous, professional, and respectful manner.
2. A safe and secure work environment must be guaranteed, free from harassment or gender-based discrimination.
3. A culture of dignity and mutual respect should be cultivated, ensuring every member of the force feels valued and empowered.
4. Dedicated WhatsApp groups for women personnel have been established to encourage open discussions and reporting of issues.

Reaffirming the department's commitment, the DGP stated, “The Himachal Pradesh Police is committed to creating a workplace where all employees, irrespective of gender, feel safe, respected, and motivated. Let us collaborate to uphold these values.”
