Himachal Pradesh MBBS Student Wins Gold Medal at National Medical Conference
Outstanding Achievement in Medical Education
A final-year MBBS student from Himachal Pradesh has achieved remarkable success by winning a gold medal at a prestigious national undergraduate medical conference for the second year in a row, showcasing the academic prowess of the state's government medical institutions.
Devanshi, who studies at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital (SLBSGMCH) in Nerchowk, excelled at MED-ASCENT 2026, which took place at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital (RPGMC), Tanda, from June 20 to 21.
The conference attracted undergraduate medical students from top medical colleges across India, competing in various scientific and clinical events. Devanshi stood out by winning the gold medal through her exceptional performances in both the Clinical Case Presentation and Research Poster Presentation categories.
This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it marks her second consecutive gold medal at this national conference. She had previously excelled in the last edition of MED-ASCENT, securing gold in the Clinical Case Presentation and Research Question Presentation events, demonstrating her consistent excellence in clinical reasoning and medical research.
Principal Prof. Dr. Rajesh Kumar congratulated Devanshi, expressing that her accomplishment is a significant source of pride for the institution and highlights the increasing focus on academic excellence and research among undergraduate medical students in Himachal Pradesh. He emphasized that such achievements reflect the institution's dedication to developing future clinicians with robust research and presentation skills.
This recognition is viewed as another significant milestone for SLBSGMCH, Nerchowk, which has been expanding its academic influence in recent years.
Medical educators believe that achievements like this not only celebrate individual excellence but also highlight the growing involvement of undergraduate students in evidence-based research, scientific inquiry, and clinical innovation—key components of modern medical education in India.
Devanshi's consecutive national victories place both her institution and Himachal Pradesh prominently on the academic landscape, illustrating the increasing competitiveness of students from state-run medical colleges on national stages.
