Following the directives from the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, a pivotal meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) took place at the Superintendent of Police's office in Nurpur. The session was led by Mr. Kulbhushan Verma (HPS), the Superintendent of Police, and included participation from SDMs, police personnel, health and education department representatives, excise officials, and various NGOs.

During the discussions, the chairperson highlighted that merely taking legal action against drug traffickers is inadequate. He insisted on conducting comprehensive financial investigations into both movable and immovable assets in cases involving significant quantities of drugs. The importance of collaborating with the revenue department was also emphasized to facilitate the removal of illegal encroachments by traffickers.

The meeting assessed the anti-narcotics initiatives implemented in February and underscored the necessity for a multi-faceted strategy. The Superintendent of Police urged the health department to offer counseling and rehabilitation services through de-addiction centers to assist individuals in reintegrating into society.

To protect the youth, the education department was encouraged to regularly promote sports and cultural events. Educational institution heads were asked to organize anti-drug awareness programs, featuring police officers, medical professionals, psychiatrists, psychologists, and rehabilitated individuals as motivational speakers.

Officials were directed to perform joint inspections of pharmacies near schools to prevent any illicit activities.

In closing, the Superintendent of Police called on the community to actively engage in the initiative by utilizing the ‘Drug-Free Himachal’ mobile application and the helpline number 1933.

This meeting represented a crucial advancement towards establishing a drug-free society, integrating law enforcement, awareness, rehabilitation, and community involvement.
