Himachal Pradesh High Court Evacuated Following Bomb Threat
Emergency Response at Himachal Pradesh High Court
On January 8, 2025, the Himachal Pradesh High Court was put on high alert due to a bomb threat communicated via an anonymous email. This alarming situation prompted immediate action from security and intelligence agencies, leading to the disruption of court proceedings as a precautionary evacuation was executed.
Officials reported that the threatening email was received early in the morning at the court's official email address. In response, the court administration promptly notified the police, resulting in the rapid deployment of multiple security teams to the location.
Thorough Search Conducted, No Threat Found
Bomb disposal units, canine teams, and local police conducted an exhaustive search of the court complex. After several hours of investigation, authorities confirmed that no suspicious items or explosives were discovered. Officials emphasized that the evacuation and subsequent checks were purely precautionary to eliminate any potential danger.
Although the operation caused temporary disruptions for litigants and court staff, normal operations resumed once the premises were deemed secure.
Investigation Launched into Threat Email
Shimla's Senior Superintendent of Police, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, stated that all necessary measures were implemented to ensure the safety of judges, staff, and visitors. He noted, "Upon receiving the information, we activated our standard security protocols and conducted a thorough search of the area," adding that an investigation is underway to trace the source of the email.
This incident marks the third time the high court has faced similar bomb threats, prompting police and cyber teams to analyze technical data to identify the individuals responsible for these repeated threats.
