Himachal Pradesh Education Board Chairman Calls for Dialogue on Nehru's Philosophy Book
Constructive Engagement Requested by Dr. Rajesh Sharma
Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh – The Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, has urged the opposition to participate in a constructive discussion regarding The Visionary, a book that explores the philosophy of India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Dr. Sharma criticized the opposition for attempting to create unnecessary controversy surrounding the book during the recent winter session of the state assembly in Dharamshala. He noted that they retreated when offered a chance to discuss the matter. “It would have been more beneficial for the opposition to comprehend the book before turning it into a contentious issue. Instead, they chose to mislead the public for their own gain,” he stated.
He reiterated his willingness to meet with the opposition at any location and time they prefer. “If they prefer not to come to the Board office, I am open to visiting wherever they suggest. The choice of venue is theirs,” he added.
Dr. Sharma highlighted that The Visionary serves as a valuable resource for the youth, aiding them in connecting with historical contexts while reducing excessive mobile phone usage. He emphasized the importance of promoting the book seriously to ensure that more young people learn about Nehru’s vision and contributions. “The increasing demand for the book indicates we are on the right path. Our aim is to help the younger generation appreciate Nehru’s role in India’s independence and nation-building,” he remarked.
He further clarified that Nehru’s philosophy transcends party lines and is a national asset. “As India’s first Prime Minister, his vision and ideas are for the entire country, not just one political party. If the opposition struggles with children learning about Nehru, that is not our fault. Rather than opposing, they should take the initiative to promote his policies,” Dr. Sharma asserted.
Addressing social issues, Dr. Sharma mentioned that the book could also play a role in steering youth away from drug abuse, particularly the issue of chitta in Himachal Pradesh. “This book will serve dual purposes – it will help reduce mobile addiction and protect youth from drug-related dangers,” he explained.
Once again, Dr. Sharma appealed to the opposition to cease creating controversies and instead collaborate in disseminating Nehru’s philosophy among students and young people. “By working together, we can foster a culture of reading and provide the younger generation with meaningful resources for their future,” he concluded.
