Himachal Pradesh CM Accuses BJP of Neglecting Revenue Deficit Grant
Chief Minister's Critique of BJP
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for failing to support the state's claim regarding the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG). Speaking on Wednesday, he expressed that the opposition is more focused on political maneuvering rather than standing with the people of Himachal Pradesh. During a press conference in Shimla after inaugurating the South Asian Table Tennis Youth Championship 2026 at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Sukhu stated that the BJP is merely engaging in politics and has not supported the legitimate demands of the state's residents. Local MLA Harish Janarth was also present at the event.
Youth Championship and Economic Commitment
The Chief Minister welcomed the championship, marking its first occurrence in Himachal Pradesh, emphasizing that it provides a platform for young athletes, particularly those under 19, to showcase their talents. He noted that such competitions could also serve as a selection ground for international events like the Asian Games. Regarding the state's economic situation, Sukhu reaffirmed his government's commitment to strengthening the economy, highlighting positive outcomes already visible. He stated, "We are dedicated to improving the state's economic condition and moving towards self-reliance."
Political Maneuvering and Election Assurance
Targeting the BJP, Sukhu accused the opposition of politicizing the issue of Panchayat elections. He assured that elections for Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies will be conducted in accordance with legal and constitutional provisions before May 31. He clarified this in light of decisions made by the lower house and the High Court. Regarding the Himcare scheme, the Chief Minister pointed out alleged irregularities, claiming an internal audit revealed a scam amounting to approximately ₹110 crores. He stated, "We will bring the truth to the public," adding that the government intends to improve and streamline the scheme rather than terminate it.
