Suresh Kumar Thakur, the President of the Apple Growers’ Association in Bharmaur, has expressed his approval of the 2026–27 budget presented by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He characterized the budget as progressive, emphasizing its advantages for farmers, horticulturists, women, and the youth. Thakur pointed out that the budget prioritizes agriculture and horticulture, along with essential sectors like roads, health, education, and job creation.

Support for Dairy Farmers

Thakur commended the government's initiative to raise milk procurement prices, noting that the price for cow's milk has increased from ₹51 to ₹61 per litre, while buffalo's milk has risen from ₹61 to ₹71 per litre. He believes this adjustment will significantly boost farmers' incomes. Additionally, he mentioned the increase in support prices for various crops: turmeric from ₹90 to ₹150, wheat from ₹60 to ₹80, maize from ₹40 to ₹50, and organic barley from ₹60 to ₹80.

Support for Sheep Farmers

In a groundbreaking move, the government has raised the wool support price for sheep-rearers from ₹15–20 per kg to ₹100 per kg for the first time, which Thakur stated will greatly enhance their earnings.

Social Welfare Initiatives

Thakur also welcomed the social welfare initiatives included in the budget, such as providing 300 units of free electricity to low-income families and expanding the Indira Gandhi Sukhi Parivar Yojana. Under this scheme, women will receive ₹1,500 monthly, with the program extending to one lakh women, thereby reinforcing social security in the state.

Conclusion

In closing, Thakur expressed his appreciation to the Chief Minister, asserting that the budget has been crafted with the needs of all societal segments in mind and will deliver tangible benefits to farmers, horticulturists, and the broader community.
