Himachal Pradesh BJP Presidential Race: Rajeev Bindal Poised for Re-election
Upcoming Nomination and Announcement Dates
Nomination to be filed on June 30, announcement likely on July 1
Shimla: The competition for the position of BJP president in Himachal Pradesh is reaching its peak, with Dr. Rajeev Bindal, the current party chief and former state Assembly Speaker, being the frontrunner for a second consecutive term.
The nominations for this prestigious role will be submitted on Monday at the party headquarters, Deep Kamal, located in Shimla. Although there is a chance of multiple candidates, insiders suggest a growing agreement on Bindal's reappointment.
Other names being considered include Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sikander Kumar and Lok Sabha MP Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj from Kangra. However, the BJP leadership appears to favor continuity by supporting Bindal.
Nomination Process and Announcement Details
Nomination process on June 30, announcement on July 1
As per BJP sources, election officers Rajeev Bhardwaj and Sanjeev Katwal will accept nominations for the state president position at Deep Kamal on Monday. If only one nomination is submitted, which is highly anticipated, Bindal will be re-elected unopposed.
The official announcement regarding the new president will take place on July 1 in Shimla, led by Union Minister and BJP’s Himachal election in-charge Dr. Jitendra Singh.
A ceremony to honor the new president is planned for later that day at Hotel Peterhoff, where senior BJP leaders and party workers from across the state will convene.
Voting Scenario and Leadership Support
Over 200 delegates to vote if multiple nominations are filed
In the unlikely event that more than one nomination is received, over 200 elected delegates from the BJP state executive committee would cast their votes to select the next president. However, sources indicate that such a scenario is unlikely, as the central leadership has nearly finalized Bindal’s candidacy through internal consensus.
Insiders within the party highlight that Bindal’s organizational skills and his ability to maintain unity during politically challenging times are highly valued by the leadership.
Preparations for the Nomination Day
Election management meeting scheduled ahead of nomination day
In preparation for Monday’s nomination, the BJP has organized an important election management meeting on Sunday at Deep Kamal. This meeting, chaired by election officers Rajeev Bhardwaj and Sanjeev Katwal, will finalize the responsibilities for the nomination process on June 30 and the subsequent announcement and ceremony on July 1.
Prior to this meeting, BJP leaders, including state co-incharge Sanjay Tandon, will participate in a live broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ at Tutu.
