Himachal Pradesh has made its mark on the global stage by securing a Guinness World Record for the 'Largest Handmade Shawl Display at a Single Venue', showcasing the state's rich handloom heritage and the collaborative spirit of its artisans.

A stunning total of 4,023 handmade shawls, crafted by traditional artisans and women self-help groups from all twelve districts of Himachal Pradesh, were exhibited together in Shimla. This vibrant display highlighted the variety of designs, colors, and weaving techniques that characterize Himachali shawls, transforming the venue into a dynamic showcase of the region's textile artistry. This remarkable achievement has been officially recognized and certified by Guinness World Records.

The record-breaking event was part of the ongoing HIM MSME Fest 2026, organized by the Himachal Pradesh Department of Industries. More than just a numerical achievement, this initiative aimed to celebrate local weavers, promote traditional craftsmanship, and elevate Himachali shawls as global symbols of sustainable, handmade artistry.

Officials noted that this record serves as a tribute to the relentless dedication of thousands of weavers, many of whom hail from remote rural areas, whose skills have been handed down through generations. The initiative also reflects the state government's ongoing commitment to artisan welfare, the revival of traditional crafts, youth engagement in handloom activities, and the enhancement of the rural economy through MSME-led efforts.

The Guinness World Records certificate was officially presented to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, accompanied by Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, along with administrative secretaries and senior officials.

This global acknowledgment has once again spotlighted Himachal Pradesh's cultural richness and artistic prowess. The record not only marks a significant milestone but also reinforces the state's identity as a vibrant center of heritage, creativity, and community-driven craftsmanship.
