MANDI:
Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, located in Nerchowk, Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, has implemented strict disciplinary actions against three senior trainee doctors following an incident where a junior trainee doctor was physically assaulted in the college hostel.
The incident reportedly took place on the evening of December 18, 2025, when two third-year MBBS trainees allegedly forced their way into the room of a second-year trainee and assaulted him, violating both hostel and institutional rules.
The victim, hailing from Shimla district, lodged a formal complaint with both the college administration and local law enforcement the next day.
In response to the complaint, the medical college administration promptly established an internal inquiry committee to investigate the situation. This committee gathered statements from all involved parties and reviewed the evidence related to the incident.
The inquiry revealed that the accused trainees had indeed violated institutional policies by entering the junior trainee’s room without permission and engaging in physical aggression. However, it was noted that the altercation was preceded by verbal disputes and provocations among the individuals involved, which were thoroughly examined by the institution’s Anti-Ragging Committee.
After careful consideration, the Anti-Ragging Committee recommended severe disciplinary actions to maintain campus discipline and ensure student safety. The college administration accepted these recommendations and decided to expel all three trainee doctors from the hostel for one year, effective immediately.
Alongside the hostel expulsion, each trainee has been fined ₹20,000 and suspended from academic classes for three months.
Dr. D.K. Verma, Principal of LBS Medical College, Nerchowk, confirmed the actions taken, emphasizing that the disciplinary measures were enforced in strict accordance with established protocols and based on the inquiry committee's findings. He reiterated the institution's zero-tolerance stance towards violence, indiscipline, and any actions that jeopardize the safety and academic integrity of the campus.
The college administration has reiterated its dedication to fostering a secure and respectful educational environment, stating that any breach of institutional discipline will result in stringent consequences as per regulations.
