Himachal Dentists Rally for Employment and Policy Changes
Joint Representation by Dentists in Ghumarwin
Ghumarwin
In a significant move, private dentists from the Ghumarwin area, led by Dr. Keshav Chand Garg (MDS), who is the President of the Himachal Pradesh Dental Health Services and Welfare Society, have collectively approached the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. Their representation outlines critical issues and requests regarding the dental profession.
Dr. Garg highlighted the alarming situation where numerous qualified BDS and MDS dentists in the state are without jobs, while the availability of government dental positions is severely limited. He called on the government to establish regular posts for Dental Medical Officers in a phased manner and to facilitate recruitment through the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.
Moreover, he raised concerns about certain government dental officers who are reportedly practicing privately, which contravenes service regulations and creates an uneven playing field for private dentists. The Society is advocating for stringent policy measures and decisive action to address this issue.
In their press release, the Society also noted that dental clinics produce minimal biomedical waste, yet they are charged ₹1200 monthly for waste disposal. They deemed this fee excessive and requested a reduction to ₹500 per month or the establishment of a dedicated biomedical waste policy tailored for dental practices.
Additionally, the Society is pushing for an extension of the registration validity with the Himachal Pradesh State Dental Council to five years, aiming to alleviate unnecessary financial and administrative pressures on dental professionals.
Local dentists, including Dr. Akshay, Dr. Bannister, Dr. Shivam, Dr. Rakhshit, Dr. Kritika, Dr. Vandana, Dr. Neerja, Dr. Richa, and Dr. Vishruti, were present at the meeting and voiced their support for the Society's initiatives.
The Society remains optimistic that the state government will respond swiftly and positively to these concerns, thereby enhancing dental health services across Himachal Pradesh.
