MANDI: On Friday, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, countered accusations from Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, who claimed that Sukhu was 'inaccessible' during a critical period.
Thakur alleged that he attempted to reach CM Sukhu six times on Thursday morning to discuss assistance for areas affected by flooding but was unable to connect, labeling the situation as 'unprecedented.'
In response, CM Sukhu refuted these claims as 'factually incorrect,' asserting, 'I did speak with Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday. If he chooses to fabricate, that is beyond my control. The truth is documented, and call records will clarify whether we communicated.'
Sukhu Calls for Unity in Crisis Response
CM Sukhu emphasized that he had also been in discussions with Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and various senior officials as the government worked diligently to coordinate relief efforts in the disaster-stricken areas.
He urged the BJP to refrain from politicizing the crisis caused by flash floods and cloudbursts, stating, 'This is not the moment for political disputes. We must unite to assist those affected by this natural disaster. The government is tirelessly working to provide relief and restore normalcy.'
CM Thanks Home Minister Shah for Support
When asked about BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, Sukhu suggested she should reach out to Jai Ram Thakur directly if she has any concerns. 'Everyone should contribute positively during this time,' he remarked.
CM Sukhu mentioned his intention to visit the severely impacted area of Janjehli but was unable to do so due to poor weather conditions. 'I will make another attempt to visit soon,' he promised.
He expressed appreciation to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for pledging financial assistance, stating that once the weather improves, relief supplies would be airlifted to remote locations using Army helicopters.
'The entire administrative framework is focused on delivering timely aid to every part of the state,' Sukhu highlighted, while also criticizing the previous BJP administration for 'misusing public resources instead of enhancing disaster preparedness.'
