Himachal Pradesh's Initiative for Energy Conservation

On Thursday, Chief Minister Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh announced a reduction in the size of his convoy, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for fuel and energy conservation. This initiative comes in light of ongoing conflicts in West Asia.

Sukhu expressed that the decision to decrease the number of vehicles in his convoy, as suggested by the Governor, is commendable. He noted that the state government has already been taking steps to cut down on various resources.

Sukhu's Commitment to Sustainable Practices

While campaigning for municipal elections in Mandi, Sukhu spoke to the media after meeting with local business leaders. He shared that he personally travels in an electric vehicle, which is compact and more economical than petrol cars. He also mentioned that there has been a reduction in the size of his and his ministers' convoys.

Additionally, a temporary pay cut of 30% for ministers and 20% for legislators has been implemented. These measures are part of the state's efforts to achieve economic self-sufficiency.

Criticism of the Opposition

Sukhu remarked that it is positive that the Governor has also reduced his convoy size. He reiterated the cuts in ministerial and legislative salaries and emphasized the government's commitment to reducing financial expenditures. In a sharp critique of the opposition BJP, Sukhu accused them of squandering public resources during their tenure, claiming that they constructed grand buildings worth thousands of crores that now serve no purpose.

He asserted that while the BJP dreams of returning to power, they fail to recognize the importance of meeting the public's expectations first.

Pending Relief Package from the Central Government

Sukhu also highlighted that Prime Minister Modi had announced a relief package of ₹1,500 crores for Himachal Pradesh, which has yet to be received. He pointed out that no BJP leader has addressed this issue, while his government actively defends the state's rights. The state government is continuously working to improve its economic situation, and positive outcomes are expected soon.
