Voting for the first phase of elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu has successfully concluded today. The results for these electoral states will be announced on May 4. By 5 PM on Thursday, there was a significant surge in voter turnout. According to the Election Commission, West Bengal recorded an impressive 89.93% voter participation, far surpassing Tamil Nadu, which saw a turnout of 82.24%. Subsequent data indicates that both states experienced substantial voter engagement as polling came to a close. West Bengal emerged as a leading state once again, with several districts exceeding the 90% mark.


District-wise Voter Turnout in West Bengal

In South Dinajpur, the highest voter turnout was noted at 93.12%, followed by Cooch Behar at 92.07%, Birbhum at 91.55%, Murshidabad at 91.36%, and Jalpaiguri at 91.20%. Other districts like Jhargram (90.53%) and West Medinipur (90.70%) also reported over 90% participation, while Bankura and Malda recorded 89.91% and 89.56%, respectively. Despite a comparatively lower turnout in Darjeeling, a strong 86.49% was still achieved. These figures reflect a robust trend of high electoral participation across all districts in West Bengal.


Voter Engagement in Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, voter turnout increased as the day progressed, with many districts nearing or exceeding 80%. Karur led with 89.32%, followed by Salem at 88.02%, Erode at 87.59%, Dharmapuri at 87.28%, and Tiruppur at 86.33%. Other notable turnouts included Ariyalur at 83.09%, Tiruchirappalli at 82.76%, and Chennai at 81.34%, indicating strong participation in urban and semi-urban areas. Meanwhile, Madurai (77.89%) and Thoothukudi (77.56%) recorded relatively lower but still significant turnout.


By-elections and Early Voting Trends
