High Court Issues Notice to Central Government on Security Request for INLD Leader Abhay Singh Chautala
Court Responds to Security Concerns
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the central government regarding a petition filed by Abhay Singh Chautala, the leader of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), seeking Z-plus or Z-category security. This action took place on Tuesday.
According to Chautala's attorney, the petition was submitted due to threats he has been receiving, prompting the request for enhanced security measures.
The lawyer stated, “Abhay Singh Chautala has approached the High Court, arguing that he requires Z-plus or Z-category security, as the current 'Y-plus' protection is inadequate.”
He further explained, “Despite having Y-plus security, Chautala continues to face a persistent threat to his life. In July, his son, Karan Chautala, received a threatening phone call, which was later followed by a similar call to Abhay's personal assistant.”
After the hearing, Abhay's lawyer, Sandeep Goyat, informed reporters, “Following these threats, we submitted a memorandum to the Haryana government, the central government, and the Chandigarh administration, but no action has been taken in response to these threats.”
He added that Abhay Chautala often travels outside Haryana, including to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, and his current security arrangements are insufficient. The court has directed the respondents, including the central and Haryana governments, to file their responses to the petition. The next hearing is scheduled for December 16.
