Heroic Rescue: Indian Coast Guard Saves Six Fishermen from Troubled Waters off Karnataka

Daring Maritime Rescue Operation

In a remarkable maritime rescue operation, the Indian Coast Guard successfully saved six fishermen whose boat encountered severe flooding and hull damage off the Karnataka coast. This incident was reported on Tuesday.

The fishing vessel, named 'Manju Matha', was in distress approximately 33 nautical miles from Surathkal when it sent out a distress signal due to the perilous sea conditions, which endangered the lives of its crew.

Responding promptly, the Indian Coast Guard ship 'Sachet' was redirected to assist, reaching the troubled boat within 90 minutes of receiving the emergency call.

The rescue was conducted under extremely challenging weather, with rough seas, strong winds, and limited visibility complicating the operation.

Despite these difficulties, the Coast Guard team executed the rescue with impressive skill and coordination.

Utilizing remote-operated lifebuoys designed for harsh marine environments, the crew managed to safely retrieve the fishermen from their compromised vessel.

By late evening, all six crew members were successfully rescued without any injuries.

The ICG ship 'Sachet' is now heading to New Mangalore for the safe disembarkation of the rescued fishermen and to complete necessary formalities.

The 'Manju Matha', constructed in 2019 and registered in Udupi, Karnataka, features a fiberglass hull.
