A significant disaster was narrowly avoided in Bilaspur district on Thursday morning when an HRTC bus, carrying approximately 40 passengers, ended up precariously positioned over a steep gorge after a collision with a private bus.
The incident occurred near the Hanuman Temple along the Bhager-Panoul road. The HRTC bus, which was en route from Jablu to Ghumarwin, collided with an oncoming private bus, resulting in nearly half of the bus hanging off the edge of the road and dangerously over the gorge.
Among the passengers were schoolchildren, college students, and daily commuters, with several sustaining minor injuries during the incident.
The small concrete parapet along the roadside played a crucial role in preventing a potential tragedy, as the bus was reportedly just inches away from falling into a gorge that is nearly 200 meters deep.
The private bus was operating on the Gehrawin-Ghumarwin-Gehrawin route. Authorities, including police, were notified after the accident, and further investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing.
