Heavy Rainfall Hits Mumbai, Disrupts Traffic
Severe Weather Conditions in Mumbai
On Tuesday evening, Mumbai experienced intense rainfall accompanied by lightning, leading to significant waterlogging in various areas, which affected traffic flow, according to officials.
They noted that the rainfall was more intense in the eastern and western suburbs compared to the city center, where only light rain was recorded.
Rainfall Measurements
By 8 PM, the western suburb of Jogeshwari recorded the highest rainfall at 63 millimeters, followed by Andheri (Malpa Dongri) with 57 mm and Andheri (East) at 40 mm.
In the eastern suburbs, Pawai saw the most rainfall at 38 mm, while Bhandup recorded 29 mm.
Impact on the City
Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported no significant incidents apart from one fallen tree and a short circuit. They confirmed that there were no major waterlogging issues in the city or its suburbs, and traffic was largely normal.
However, traffic police indicated that waterlogging in the Andheri subway had caused some traffic disruptions.
Weather Forecast
Passengers noted that the rain had slowed down traffic considerably. The meteorological department warned of potential heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of Maharashtra from May 21 to 24, due to the formation of cyclonic winds over the east-central Arabian Sea, off the Karnataka coast.
