GUWAHATI, July 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, expected in Guwahati and various districts throughout the state over the next 3-4 days.

This weather change is linked to the prevailing meteorological conditions and the ongoing monsoon in the region.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the forecast indicates that the city and other districts will experience thunderstorms with lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall (6-12cm in 24 hours). This could lead to increased waterlogging, flooding, flash floods, slow traffic, and a heightened risk of localized landslides in susceptible areas.

District authorities, along with ASDMA, are actively monitoring the situation, ensuring that emergency response systems are prepared for any developments.

In light of these conditions, ASDMA has advised residents of Guwahati to take necessary precautions and stay alert.

Commuters and travelers are encouraged to adjust their plans to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.

Residents living in low-lying and hilly regions should be vigilant for potential flooding or landslides.
