Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Guwahati: IMD Issues Alert

Weather Update for Guwahati

Guwahati, June 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Guwahati will experience cloudy conditions over the next few days, with a significant chance of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

According to the IMD's notification released on Sunday, there is a "75% likelihood" of thunderstorms accompanied by intense rainfall in certain areas of the city.

Authorities have cautioned that this weather could lead to waterlogging, hinder traffic flow, and elevate the risk of localized landslides in susceptible regions.

The IMD has confirmed that city officials are closely monitoring the situation, with emergency response teams on standby.

In light of recent landslides and water blockages caused by heavy rainfall in the past few days, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has urged residents of Guwahati to take necessary precautions and stay alert.

Commuters and long-distance travelers are advised to adjust their travel plans and minimize unnecessary movement during periods of heavy rain.

Residents in low-lying and hillside areas should be vigilant for possible flooding or landslides. It is recommended that those in vulnerable locations stock up on essential supplies such as medications, drinking water, candles, and non-perishable food items.

Additionally, individuals living in landslide-prone areas are encouraged to temporarily move to safer locations, including designated relief camps, for the next three days.
