The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall across various states until June 30, as the downpour continues to disrupt daily life in many regions. A yellow alert has been activated in Delhi, with the monsoon expected to arrive in the national capital by Thursday, June 26. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is anticipated in Delhi and its surrounding areas.
Flooding and School Closures in Gujarat and Maharashtra
As of Tuesday, June 24, Surat in Gujarat is facing issues with flooding, leading to school closures. In parts of Nashik, Maharashtra, areas have been submerged due to the rising levels of the Godavari River, while Kerala is also experiencing rainfall. The weather department has cautioned about heavy rain in several regions of western, central, eastern, and southern India over the coming days, and has issued a heatwave warning for the Jammu division.
Delhi's Weather Conditions
In Delhi, the minimum temperature recorded on Saturday was 28.7 degrees Celsius, which is 0.8 degrees above the seasonal average, according to the IMD. The department has forecasted thunderstorms and rain for Saturday and Sunday, with maximum temperatures hovering around 37 degrees Celsius.
Humidity and Air Quality in Delhi
At 8:30 AM, the relative humidity in Delhi was noted at 72 percent. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 86 at 10 AM on Saturday, categorizing it as 'satisfactory.' The AQI scale ranges from 0 to 50 for good, 51 to 100 for satisfactory, 101 to 200 for moderate, 201 to 300 for poor, 301 to 400 for very poor, and 401 to 500 for severe.
