Monsoon Activity Intensifies Across Northern Regions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the active southwest monsoon across northwestern, central, and eastern India, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall and the risk of flash floods in vulnerable areas. Following a hot and humid weekend, a significant drop in temperatures is expected in Delhi. Over the coming days, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and several northeastern states. As the monsoon strengthens, the maximum temperature in the national capital is projected to decrease from nearly 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday to around 30 degrees Celsius by Tuesday.
From Monday to Wednesday, localized thunderstorms and heavy rain are likely in Delhi, which will bring daytime temperatures down to the lower 30s. The IMD has released temperature forecasts for Delhi: 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 37 degrees Celsius on Monday, 30 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, 33 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, 35 degrees Celsius on Thursday, 36 degrees Celsius on Friday, and 32 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
On Sunday, the capital may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds of 20–30 km/h, along with scattered rainfall. In the National Capital Region (NCR), Ghaziabad is expected to have a minimum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 39 degrees Celsius, while Gurugram's temperatures may range between 34 and 40 degrees Celsius. Faridabad is forecasted to be relatively cooler, with temperatures between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall throughout the week in northeastern India, with heavy rain expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. In northwestern India, heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Some areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may experience extremely heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash floods and landslides.
