Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued for Jharkhand by IMD

IMD Issues Orange Alert for Jharkhand

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'Orange' alert for several regions in Jharkhand due to expected heavy rainfall, as announced on Sunday by an official.

According to the IMD bulletin, the alert specifically covers the districts of Gumla, Simdega, Khunti, and West Singhbhum.

The department forecasts intense rainfall in these areas from 8:30 AM on Sunday until 8:30 AM on Monday.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Lohardaga, Ranchi, Saraikela-Kharsawan, and East Singhbhum during this period.

Abhishek Anand, the deputy director of the Ranchi Meteorological Center, stated that cyclonic winds and other weather activities could lead to heavy to very heavy rainfall in the southwestern and central parts of Jharkhand on Sunday.

He also mentioned that seven districts—Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, and Bokaro—are expected to experience significant rainfall on Saturday.

The official noted that Jharkhand has recorded 75% more rainfall between June 1 and July 4.

During this timeframe, the state received 395 millimeters of rain compared to the normal 226.3 millimeters.

Ranchi district reported the highest excess rainfall at 177%, while Latehar recorded 153% more than usual. However, Deoghar and Godda are experiencing below-average rainfall, with deficits of 35% and 27%, respectively.
