Heatwave Warning from Meteorological Department

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for various regions in northwestern, central, and eastern India, highlighting the expected rise in temperatures and associated health risks. Forecasts indicate that on April 24 and 25, certain areas in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi may experience heatwave conditions. Similar weather patterns are anticipated in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal over the coming days.

Conditions in Coastal and Southern Regions

Coastal and southern states, including Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka, are also expected to face hot and humid weather. According to the IMD's statement, nights in Delhi, Haryana, Odisha, and some western coastal areas are likely to remain warm. For Delhi, the IMD has predicted mainly clear skies with heatwave conditions in some areas on April 24. From Wednesday to Friday, heatwaves are expected in New Delhi, with temperatures in several parts of the national capital potentially reaching up to 44 degrees Celsius. In light of this, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, warning of possible heatwave conditions throughout the day.

Temperature Forecast and Health Advisory

The maximum temperatures are projected to range between 42°C and 44°C, significantly above normal, while minimum temperatures may vary from 22°C to 24°C. Winds are expected to be light, predominantly blowing from the west. The water management department has cautioned that high temperatures could lead to heat-related illnesses, particularly among vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, and those with serious health conditions. Residents are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, stay hydrated, and consume fluids like ORS, lemonade, and buttermilk.

Agricultural Recommendations Amid Heat

The weather agency has also provided agricultural advice, urging farmers in the affected states to implement measures such as light irrigation, mulching, and shade nets to protect crops and maintain soil moisture during the extreme heat. Officials have called on residents to exercise caution in light of the continuous rise in temperatures, as prolonged heatwave conditions are likely in many areas.
