A Disturbing Incident in Subarnapur District

Sonepur: A distressing situation has emerged in Subarnapur district involving a minor girl and her newborn, raising alarms about police negligence and administrative failures.

Reports indicate that a 17-year-old girl from the Thengo Dam region, under the jurisdiction of Birmaharajpur police, gave birth to a baby boy on June 17. She has accused Sunil Sandh from Binika of exploiting her sexually for an extended period under the guise of a marriage promise.

Following the birth, the girl, accompanied by members of her community, approached Sunil’s family for acceptance but was reportedly rejected. When she sought assistance from the Binika police, she was redirected to the Birmaharajpur station, where she ultimately lodged a formal complaint.

The health of the newborn is reportedly declining, yet no medical assistance has been provided. Despite local ASHA and Anganwadi workers being aware of the dire situation, there has been a lack of medical intervention, raising significant concerns about child welfare.

The girl hails from a severely disadvantaged background. Orphaned at a young age, she lives with her 80-year-old grandfather and three sisters, according to sources.

In response to inquiries, Anju Oram, the Inspector-In-Charge of Birmaharajpur Police Station, confirmed that efforts are being made to locate the accused.
