Patna, May 9: A significant health emergency unfolded in the Gurua block of Gaya district on Friday night, as over 40 individuals fell ill following a Tilak ceremony held in Dhana Bigha village, according to officials on Saturday.


As per reports, a large crowd gathered for the ceremony, and shortly after consuming food, many began to show symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and agitation.


What started as minor complaints quickly escalated into a serious situation, with numerous attendees succumbing to illness in rapid succession, causing widespread panic in the village. Most affected individuals were taken to the Community Health Centre in Gurua, while others sought treatment at nearby private clinics.


In response to the alarming situation, the Health Department acted promptly, dispatching ambulances to transport patients for immediate medical attention.


Dr. Harendra Kumar reported that medical teams are closely monitoring the condition of all patients. Another physician, Nitish Kumar, indicated that the symptoms align with food poisoning.


Among those affected are Sunita Devi (45), Premni Devi (44), Roshan Kumar (17), Anand Kumar (22), Ramesh Ram (45), Rahul Raj (28), Akash Kumar (30), Kundan Kumar (25), and Ankush Kumar (10), all residents of Dhana Bigha village.


Medical professionals have reassured that all patients are stable, with no severe cases reported, and prompt medical care has effectively managed the situation.


Local residents have raised concerns regarding the quality of food served during the ceremony, suspecting it may have been spoiled or contaminated.


The Health Department has initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the illnesses, including testing food samples and identifying any negligence.
