Latest Developments in the Murder Investigation
In a significant update regarding the murder of Sheetal Simmi Chaudhary, Haryana Police is set to present the suspect, a friend of the victim, in court on Tuesday. The individual, identified as Sunil, was apprehended last night in connection with the case. Following his remand, authorities will initiate a more in-depth investigation. Sunil hails from Israna, a village located in Panipat. The tragic discovery of Sheetal's body occurred in a water canal in the Kharkhoda region of Sonipat district on Sunday. Her family had reported her missing at the Matlauda police station on June 15.
Police Statements on the Case
According to DSP Headquarters, Satish Vats, a woman from Satkartar Colony in Panipat filed a complaint on June 15, stating that she and her four siblings were concerned about their sister Sheetal, aged 24, who worked as a model in Haryanvi music videos. Sheetal had gone to Ahar village for a shoot on May 14 and failed to return. Despite their efforts to locate her, the family was unsuccessful.
In response to the complaint, police registered a case under section 127(6) of the BNS and commenced a search. On Monday morning, authorities discovered a woman's body in a canal near Kharkhoda, which was later confirmed to be Sheetal's. After a post-mortem examination, her remains were returned to her family.
A murder charge has been filed against Sunil, who, during initial questioning, confessed to fatally stabbing Sheetal. He attempted to mislead investigators by claiming that a car had fallen into the canal after the murder.
DSP Vats indicated that the suspect will be presented in court today, where further interrogation will be conducted to uncover the motive behind Sheetal's death. The police are also actively searching for the knife believed to have been used in the crime.
