Haryana Government Takes Action Against Old Vehicles to Combat Pollution
New Regulations for Old Vehicles in Haryana
Have you ever wondered why your breath quickens during a morning jog? The answer lies in the congested roads filled with aging vehicles, smoke, and deteriorating air quality. In response, the Haryana government is implementing significant measures that directly affect your vehicle and your health.
Cameras Will Determine Fuel Access!
Starting November 1, 2025, petrol and diesel will not be available for vehicles that exceed the age limit in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sonipat. In simple terms, if your car or bike is considered 'overage,' you may leave the petrol station empty-handed. So, how can you tell if your vehicle is overage? The answer lies in technology. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed at petrol stations to determine the age of your vehicle based on its license plate, deciding whether you can refuel or not.
Initial Implementation in Three Districts
Currently, these regulations will apply to three districts, but plans are in place to extend them across the entire NCR region. Petrol station owners have been given a deadline to prepare, with ANPR cameras required to be installed by October 31, 2025, in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sonipat, and by March 31, 2026, in other areas.
Significant Shift Towards Green Mobility
In a major step towards green mobility, the Haryana government has mandated that only CNG or electric three-wheeler auto rickshaws will be allowed in the existing fleet. From November 1, 2025, only BS6 compliant light, medium, and heavy vehicles will be permitted to enter Delhi, excluding essential services and vehicles registered in Delhi.
Improved Connectivity Between Haryana and Delhi
To enhance connectivity between Haryana and Delhi, 382 BS6 buses will be added by the end of October this year. Starting January 1, 2026, no new diesel or petrol two-wheelers, four-wheel light commercial vehicles, or large goods vehicles will be allowed in the fleet. By November 1, 2026, all buses entering Delhi, including tourist buses and special permit vehicles, must operate on electric, CNG, or BS6 modes.
