Historic Achievement by Harry Brook

In Rawalpindi, the advent of the T20 format has significantly transformed cricket, putting bowlers under immense pressure. This trend has also been evident in Test and ODI formats. On Thursday, October 22, England's captain Harry Brook showcased his explosive batting skills, making history in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka. Brook became the first player from England to score a double century in ODIs, achieving this remarkable feat in a thrilling manner. He was dismissed on the last ball of the innings, contributing to England's impressive total of 429 runs for 4 wickets in 50 overs.

Brook's innings of 200 runs came off just 114 balls, making him the fastest player to reach a double century in ODI cricket. He surpassed the previous record held by India's Shubman Gill, who scored a double century against the West Indies in 117 balls. Brook's innings included 21 fours and 10 sixes, and he now holds the record for the quickest double century in ODI history, having scored 202 runs off 116 balls. Notably, Brook has also scored a century in T20 internationals and a triple century in Tests.

In the list of fastest double centuries, Ishan Kishan ranks third with 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022, followed by Australia's Glenn Maxwell with 128 balls against Afghanistan in 2023, Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka with 136 balls against Afghanistan in 2024, and Chris Gayle with 138 balls against Zimbabwe in 2015.

Brook Surpasses Ben Stokes

Before Brook's record, Ben Stokes held the record for the highest ODI score for England, having scored 182 runs against New Zealand in 2023. Remarkably, Brook is only the second player in cricket history to score a double century without opening the batting, a feat previously accomplished by Glenn Maxwell during the 2023 ODI World Cup against Afghanistan.

Other Contributions in the Match

While Brook dominated the innings, no other batsman managed to score a century. However, three players did reach half-centuries. Joe Root scored 69 runs with the help of 8 fours, while Will Jacks made a quick 66 runs off just 30 balls, hitting 8 fours and 3 sixes. Additionally, Tom Banton contributed with a half-century, scoring 50 runs off 51 balls. It's worth noting that Pakistan is the third team participating in this series.
