Harry Brook Falls Short of Century, Dismissed for 99 in Test Match

Brook's Near Miss at Headingley
In the first Test match between India and England held at Leeds, Harry Brook narrowly missed out on a century, getting out for 99 runs. His impressive innings came to an end when Shardul Thakur caught him out in the deep, leaving Brook just one run shy of reaching the coveted milestone at his home ground. After a drinks break during the second session on Day 3, Prasidh Krishna claimed the crucial wicket of Brook, whose attempt to hit a bouncer down the leg side resulted in a catch that Thakur managed to secure.

Brook expressed his frustration after the dismissal, visibly upset at missing the century at his home ground. This unfortunate event placed him in a rather undesirable group of players who have been dismissed for 99 runs at Headingley. He became the third player in the venue's history to fall victim to this fate, following in the footsteps of Mike Atherton and Saleem Malik. Atherton's dismissal occurred against South Africa in 1994, while Malik faced a similar fate against England in 1987.
Earlier on Day 3, Brook had been dismissed twice but was fortunate to survive. He edged a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja at 46, but wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was unable to hold onto the catch. Later, he edged another ball at 82 from Jasprit Bumrah, which was dropped by Yashasvi Jaiswal in the gully. Additionally, Brook had previously been dismissed for a duck by Mohammed Siraj, but that was nullified due to Bumrah's no-ball.
