Saba Karim Praises Harmanpreet's Performance

Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim expressed admiration for Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur's exceptional performance during a tense chase against the Gujarat Giants in the Women's Premier League (WPL). Kaur's remarkable innings of 71 runs off just 43 balls played a crucial role in securing a thrilling victory for her team on Tuesday night.

Karim noted, "Watching Harmanpreet bat is always a delight. Her success and consistency stem from her quick adaptability, which is influenced by her keen awareness of the match situation and her ability to assess conditions early. She is a dependable batter, adept at exploiting the field, making it challenging for bowlers to set a field against her. Her strength on both the off and leg sides enhances her competence, especially in high-pressure run chases."

Kaur's Unique Batting Style

Karim highlighted Kaur's unique ability to adjust her batting style at critical moments. "Her significant backlift and the arc of her downswing make it tough for bowlers to contain her. Although her innings had a few imperfections, she is likely to address those in future matches. Her batting remains fluid, and she effortlessly finds gaps against both pace and spin. Her exceptional game-reading skills and match-finishing abilities are evident in her impressive WPL record, with over 1,000 runs scored while batting at number four, including eight or nine fifties, showcasing her impact every time she steps onto the field," Karim added.

Kaur's performance has solidified her status as a key player in the league.

Kaur Makes WPL History

Harmanpreet Kaur has made history by becoming only the second player in WPL history to surpass 1,000 runs, following Nat Sciver-Brunt. Her record-setting 10th fifty-plus score, along with vital partnerships with Amanjot Kaur and Nicola Carey, led the Mumbai Indians to a seven-wicket victory over the Gujarat Giants at DY Patil Stadium. Kaur's achievement of 10 fifty-plus scores is the highest in the tournament's history, surpassing both Nat Sciver-Brunt and UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning, who each have nine.

Currently, Kaur has accumulated 1,016 runs in 30 matches and 29 innings, boasting an impressive average of 46.18 and a strike rate of 146.18.

Mumbai Indians Maintain Winning Streak

With this latest win, the Mumbai Indians have maintained an unbeaten record against the Gujarat Giants, winning all eight encounters in WPL history. This remarkable achievement marks the only perfect record for any team against an opponent in the league's history. Following this victory, the Mumbai Indians have secured their second consecutive win in the ongoing WPL 2026 season, bouncing back after a loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the tournament opener, placing them in second position.
