On Friday, Harivansh was elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, as the opposition did not field any candidates. This marks the third consecutive term for Harivansh in this role. The position became vacant after his previous term ended on April 9. The election date was set by the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, C.P. Radhakrishnan, in accordance with Rule 7 of the procedural and operational guidelines. The deadline for submitting proposals was Thursday at noon.

Modi mentioned that Harivansh was born in the village of J.P. and has been actively involved in rural development since his student days. His education took place in Kashi. Since assuming the role of Deputy Chairman in 2018, Harivansh has reportedly conducted over 350 programs in colleges and universities. This is a significant achievement. While his efficiency in the House is well recognized, he has also dedicated considerable time to assist state assemblies and councils with necessary training.
