BJP Selects Hardeep Singh Puri for Rajya Sabha By-Election

In Bhopal, the Bharatiya Janata Party has announced Hardeep Singh Puri as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election in Madhya Pradesh. This vacancy arose following the resignation of L. Murugan, the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, from both his ministerial position and Rajya Sabha membership. Voting for this crucial seat is scheduled for November 12.

Hardeep Singh Puri, who serves as the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, will see his term as a Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh conclude this November. Earlier this month, during the Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP introduced eight new candidates, which resulted in Puri not being renominated. All ten candidates from the state were declared elected unopposed, comprising eight from the ruling party and two from the opposition.

Meanwhile, L. Murugan submitted his resignation from the Union Cabinet and the Rajya Sabha, citing a focus on Tamil Nadu politics. Although Murugan's term was set to last until 2030, his unexpected departure necessitated this by-election in Madhya Pradesh. With Puri now nominated, the party has paved the way for his entry into the upper house of Parliament.
