BPF's Victory and Upcoming Oath Ceremony

Kokrajhar, Sept. 27: Following his prediction made a week prior to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election results, Hagrama Mohilary, the leader of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), is set to be sworn in as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) on October 3.

The BPF, having achieved a significant victory in the BTC elections, finalized the oath-taking date during its inaugural Policy Making Body (PMB) meeting held at the Bodoland Guest House in Kokrajhar on Saturday afternoon.

Chaired by Mohilary, the meeting saw participation from all newly elected representatives and senior party officials.

"The results of the BTC elections are well-known, and today we convened our policy-making body meeting ahead of forming the government," he stated to the media after the meeting.

On September 28, the party plans to meet Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya to formally claim the right to form the council and to extend invitations for the swearing-in ceremony.

"We are open to collaboration with all political entities. Our primary duty is to meet the expectations of the people. Addressing land rights (mattir patta) will be one of our foremost priorities," Mohilary emphasized.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed his attendance at the oath-taking event, with Governor Acharya also expected to be present.

The PMB commenced with a moment of silence to honor the late cultural figure Zubeen Garg and the martyrs of the Bodoland movement. The body also resolved to pay tribute to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma prior to the swearing-in.

The party unanimously appointed Mohilary as the Leader of the Legislature Party in the BTC, with Rihon Daimari as Deputy Leader, Derhasat Basumatary as Chief Whip, and Maheswar Basumatary as Secretary.

When asked about potential alliances and the support offered by CM Sarma, Mohilary stated that the BPF is willing to collaborate with any party that respects the interests of the BTC populace. "If Congress supports us, we welcome it. If the BJP addresses our community's needs, we are also open to working with them," he remarked.

The BPF dominated the Council elections, winning 28 out of 40 seats, while its main competitor, the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), secured seven seats, and the BJP managed only five.
