Transport Department's Initiative in Guwahati

Guwahati, May 29: A dedicated team from the Transport Department is actively visiting the residences and workplaces of vehicle owners to address document-related issues, provide driver’s license services, facilitate tax payments, and offer other vital services directly.

Under the guidance of the special duty officer and District Transport Officer Gautam Das, this initiative also focuses on identifying luxury vehicles and those owned by multinational corporations that have not yet updated their vehicle documentation.

Das emphasized the importance of maintaining proper vehicle documentation to ensure the safety of both passengers and drivers.

“Having valid documents is essential for any vehicle. Without them, a vehicle cannot be considered operational or legally compliant,” he stated.

He also cautioned that in the event of accidents involving such vehicles, third-party victims may not receive compensation from either the government or insurance providers.

The senior official encouraged vehicle owners to promptly settle any outstanding dues, including taxes, and to update essential documents such as driver’s licenses, fitness certificates, permits, and pollution control certificates.

The Transport Department has increased its vigilance, particularly targeting commercial vehicles, multinational companies, and construction firms that operate without valid documentation to mitigate road safety risks.
