Guwahati's Growing Cricket Legacy

Guwahati is poised to welcome its second Test match, marking a significant achievement for Assam's rising profile in the world of cricket.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the schedule for India's international home season for 2026-27, designating the city as the host for the third Test of the esteemed five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

This match is scheduled to take place from February 11 to 15, 2027, making it only the second Test ever held in Guwahati. The inaugural Test occurred from November 22 to 26, 2025, featuring India versus South Africa, a landmark event for the region.

In addition to the Test match, Guwahati will also host the second ODI during the West Indies' tour of India on September 30, 2026.

The Assam Cricket Association emphasized that the assignment of a Test match once again highlights the trust in the city's infrastructure and organizational skills.

Officials noted that hosting both an ODI and a Test in the same season showcases Guwahati's emergence as a dependable venue for premier international events.

The association expressed appreciation to ICC chairman Jay Shah and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia for their confidence in the city to host these matches.

With the confirmation of the second Test, Guwahati is solidifying its role as a pivotal hub for international cricket in the Northeast, building on the success of its first Test in 2025.

Devajit Saikia remarked that Guwahati has demonstrated its capability as a successful host venue.

"I extend my congratulations to the Assam Cricket Association for securing its second Test match. Hosting a Border-Gavaskar Trophy match is a significant honor. Over the years, Guwahati has consistently shown its ability to host international sporting events effectively," Saikia stated.

"I believe this is merely the beginning. In the future, the city has the potential to become one of the most desirable sporting venues in the nation."

The upcoming season will feature 22 international matches across 17 cities, commencing with the West Indies tour of India on September 27, 2026.

This tour will include a three-match ODI series followed by a five-match T20I series.
