Guwahati Airport Sees Significant Growth in Passenger Traffic

Strong Performance at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport

Guwahati, July 26: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati has reported impressive growth in the first quarter of the financial year 2025–26, showcasing a notable increase in both passenger numbers and aircraft movements, as per the announcement made by airport officials on Thursday.

The airport served approximately 1.81 million passengers, which marks a 15.37% rise compared to the same period last year. Additionally, aircraft movements reached 12,470, reflecting an 11.41% increase over Q1 of FY 2024–25. These statistics highlight LGBIA's emerging role as a vital aviation hub in Northeast India.

April 10 was recorded as the busiest day of the quarter, with the airport accommodating a remarkable 21,594 passengers in just one day. This surge in traffic is attributed to the consistent demand for air travel and ongoing enhancements in airport facilities.

Analyzing the data further, domestic air traffic movements (ATM) increased by 11.6%, rising from 10,961 to 12,232 flights. Meanwhile, international ATMs experienced a slight growth of 2.59%, moving from 232 to 238. Domestic passenger figures surged from 1,544,691 to 1,783,066, indicating a 15.43% increase, while international passenger traffic grew by 11%, from 21,257 to 23,594.

The leading destinations from Guwahati remained consistent, with Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru continuing to dominate passenger traffic, underscoring the airport's strong links to major metropolitan areas.

Officials credited this robust performance to ongoing investments in infrastructure, technological advancements, and a commitment to enhancing the passenger experience.

“This performance underscores the airport’s significance as a crucial aviation center in Northeast India and reflects the rising demand for air travel in the region,” the statement noted.

The success was also attributed to effective collaboration with airline partners, regulatory agencies, and other essential stakeholders, which collectively contributed to operational efficiency and improved service delivery.

On July 6, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma provided an update regarding the expansion of Guwahati Airport, announcing that the new terminal is set to open in November and will be a remarkable sight for the public.
