Margherita, July 18: On Friday night, Assam Rifles personnel apprehended two individuals following a gunfight with an unidentified insurgent group in the Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh, which resulted in a woman being shot.


Details of the Incident

The suspects were subsequently handed over to the local police for further investigation, as stated by the Assam Rifles on Saturday.


The exchange of gunfire occurred around 9:15 PM in the vicinity of Tengapani Reserve Forest and Lal Pahar Road, according to the paramilitary force.


"An exchange of fire took place between D/8 Assam Rifles and an unknown insurgent group in the area between Tengapani Reserve Forest and Lal Pahar Road, Namsai District, Arunachal Pradesh," the statement detailed.


Following the gunfight, the operation continued, leading to the arrest of two suspects.


Injuries Reported

During the incident, a 30-year-old woman named Koilani Namchoom, who resides in Momong village, sustained a bullet wound to her left knee.


She received initial medical treatment before being referred to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital in Assam for specialized care.


"Ms. Koilani Namchoom, aged 30 years, daughter of Chow Nalaching Namchoom, a resident of Village Momong, PS Namsai, District Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh, sustained a bullet injury to her left knee," the statement confirmed.


Ongoing Investigation

Authorities, including police and security agencies, have initiated an investigation to identify the insurgent group involved in the incident.
